The business manager is a figure that does not have as much visibility as the personal manager, but is more decisive for the sustainability of the artist’s career. The functions of the business manager are generally to take care of all the financial aspects (payments and collections), and in some cases legal aspects of the artist’s career. E.g.: cash control, budgeting, royalty monitoring, investment strategies, tax payments, etc.

Personal Assistant

Many people wonder what the job of a personal assistant is. In short, the functions of a personal music assistant are to accompany the artist everywhere, to help with the management of the artist’s schedule and to always be available for whatever the artist may need in relation to personal or professional tasks. They can often take calls and emails that go to the artist. Or go and buy water, coffee, food or whatever the artist may need so that they do not lose concentration or time. As well as having a recorder or a place to write things down when the artist comes up with an idea. Or provide a towel when they might need it.

To become a Personal Assistant, you do not need such a comprehensive training as such, but the 60 ECTS Master’s in Music Business Management can give you experience in understanding how to deal with artists and put into practice your production skills, which are necessary for day to day organisation.
